Hello,
Please take a moment read the story of the last few days and help
with any advice.
Thursday Feb 12 i go into JOHN ROBERT POWERS because i'm curious
about this whole model thing, which they where the closet to my home.
They seemily like me and sell me on pitch of taking classes and
buying comp cards, i decline. meeting ends with an inivtation to a
casting call on Sun Feb 15.
Sunday Feb 15 i go back to JOHN ROBERT POWERS where there are 30
people none of which really stand out to me as being beatiful. Then
they call me into a room where i meet Nick Terzian and Nancy Luciano,
who both really like me and say congrats you have a contract with us
if you want. Then JRP jumps in has me wait with a very cute baby that
i missed with my intial survey of the room, until everyone left. Then
JRP said i had to have a comp card made and i should use there
photographer for $1200.
I'm going to decline this as i have no ties to JOHN ROBERT POWERS
and go to my meeting with Nick Terzian and associates.
Please help me with any advice towards my future. Thank you and God
bless
P.S. Im a 18 yr male blond hair 6'0 surfer and runner

Go to that meeting and see what develops.

If you are in a major market, call AFTRA and/or SAG, say that you are
just getting into show biz and ask how you can get a list of agents.

This is a common scam. The agency makes its money by selling you something.
The casting call is a phony. If you were to be picked what would you need the
agency for. You would have no financial obligatio to them and they would be
out any money if one of their clients were to be chosen. If you attend this
casting call, you won't get the part as thee is probably not any part. The
entire thing is staged so that they can make comments about you and hope you
wish to proceed further by purchasing whatever it is this agency is trying to
sell.

I ran a studio in NJ back in the late 70s and 80s. The same scam was going on
then all over NJ and NY and has gone on for decades. An honest and legit
outfit would sign you to a deal for a specific period of time then they would
pay for whatever you need. The contract would hold you to them so they could
recoup their money.

Agencies like this take advantage of people by telling them they have great
potential and give them dreams of making the big bucks. Then they sell you
their package and a few years later you're out the $1000 and still flipping
burgers.

If you are really interested in work, find yourself a studio, not a modeling
agency, and offer to do some free work. That will get you out there faster
than any fly-by-night agency will.

What exactly is a model studio? Is sgooting done on their premises?

Is it different then hooking up with a photographer who books you?
